Abstract

This work proposes a discussion about engagement in learning among Basic education
students in the Special Education modality. Thus, the text highlights strategies teachers can
develop to motivate and engage students in the teaching and learning processes. Promoting
actions that aim to engage students enrolled in specialized schools is fundamental. Initially,
the educational proposals carried out by school teams are analyzed, focusing on pedagogical
work in specialized schools, particularly in Early Childhood and Elementary Education for
students with disabilities. The discussion mentions the approaches that include school training
processes for children, youth, adults, and elderly people within special education. The challenge for specialized schools lies in creating actions tailored to meet the educational needs of their
students. Therefore, it is essential to establish mechanisms and multi-media approaches to engage students and teachers in a motivating and effective teaching and learning process. Various
pathways can be explored to implement an open, flexible, and pedagogically robust approach
that strengthens the learning of students with disabilities. It is necessary to deepen the understanding of the applicability and significance of engagement practices for effective development, valuing, and motivating students in all aspects—social, cognitive, and affective.
