This study analyzes the inclusion of people with disabilities in the formal labor market,
highlighting challenges and progress. Although employment opportunities have increased, only
2.9% of the population with disabilities is formally employed. The jobs held are primarily in
administration, production, and customer service, predominantly in retail. The research invol
ved 93 individuals with disabilities, most of whom were diagnosed with intellectual disabilities,
with an average age of 35 years and 38.71% of them having finished high school. Significant gaps in training were identified, as most programs were informal and lacked continuity, affec
ting workplace integration and performance. Interpersonal support was essential for adaptation,
but the absence of structured strategies highlights the need for greater investment in acces
sibility and professional training. Additionally, 87.67% of participants expressed interest in
continuing their studies but cited obstacles such as time constraints and difficulties in subjects
like Portuguese and Mathematics. The research emphasizes the importance of inclusive public
policies, accessible training, and consistent workplace support, aligned with current legislation,
to increase the participation of people with disabilities in the labor market.
