This present article aims to reflect on the professional work developed by social workers
when facing the challenges of promoting social inclusion for individuals with intellectual disa
bilities and/or Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) in contemporary society, focusing on ensuring
and defending the rights of these individuals and their families. The article discusses the absen
ce of the State in fulfilling its role of effectively guaranteeing full access to constitutional rights,
shifting its responsibility to families and society at large, resulting in a significant burden on
families, while social workers often face institutional and structural limitations due to the lack
of concrete policies and resources capable of providing specialized and individualized support
for this group. This study is developed from a critical perspective, through bibliographic and
documentary analysis on the subject.
