Introduction: Motor coordination problems are common in childhood. Every teacher has dealt with children who have difficulty or are slow at writing, who have crumpled and disorganized notebooks, whose materials are constantly falling off their desks, who don't tie their shoes properly, or who are anxious in physical education class. DCD (Developmental Coordination Disorder) is a frequent health condition in childhood that persists throughout life, characterized by deficits in the coordination of gross and fine motor movements, which limits the performance of daily activities that require motor coordination and can lead to restrictions in social participation. Although it is a frequent condition, with a prevalence of 5% to 6% of school-age children, DCD is still little known by society in general and by health and education professionals. Objective and methodology: This article aims to conduct a literature review containing what the disorder is, its signs, impacts, and suggestive signs of DCD. Conclusion: Studies conducted to date in different countries indicate that DCD is a poorly understood health condition among doctors, occupational therapists, physiotherapists, teachers, and parents. Although international guidelines emphasize that BDD is the most appropriate term to refer to this health condition, other terms are still used. We need to know more about the situation of people with BDD in our country. Understanding what BDD is, its signs and consequences, as well as encouraging the use of the correct term, is already a start.
