Abstract

Because of the current global context, shaped by significant crises in public health, with the most recent being COVID-19, this article sought to gather information and research findings regarding the neuropsychological impact of the pandemic on adults with intellectual disabilities. The text brings concepts inherent to the problem of COVID-19, as well as neuropsychology, relating and analyzing the consequences of the coping measures adopted in these circumstances, such as quarantine, social distancing, and isolation, during three periods of evolution of the pandemic in the pre-crisis, intra-crisis and post-crisis. The article also highlights the repercussions observed in the mental health of the adult population with intellectual disabilities, reflecting on the favorable and unfavorable outcomes incorporated into the crisis process, such as the development of depression and anxiety. In summary, this paper discusses mental health care through neuropsychology and how neuropsychological rehabilitation works to minimize the negative impact of the crisis, acting in a preventive way.
