The present work is an experience report on using crafts as a pedagogical tool for mediation, aiming at the (re)habilitation of elderly individuals with intellectual disabilities. It was carried out with 54 students, aged between 40 and 93 years, enrolled in the Social Interaction Service of APAE (Association of Parents and Friends of Exceptional Individuals) in Florianópolis, Santa Catarina. The pedagogical process for (re)habilitation occurs through mediated interaction between the educational professional and the elderly individual with intellectual disabilities, encompassing the principles of a functional natural curriculum. The systematization of the pedagogical process is facilitated by the Pedagogical Handbook, and the interventions’ guidelines are organized by areas of skills and crafts. Within the services provided to elderly individuals, leisure activities, social participation, workshops, and group activities are developed, allowing for interaction and active participation in society. Crafts, as a pedagogical instrument, can help elderly individuals with intellectual disabilities learn new manual, social, and cognitive skills, enabling them to work in teams and solve problems. Also, in addition to assisting in skill acquisition and maintenance, the practice affects self-esteem, self-image, and the interaction of the individuals, contributing to their overall well-being. For the effective development of functional skills in elderly individuals with intellectual disabilities, it is of utmost importance to partner with their families, as it is necessary to continue the (re)habilitation process at home as well.n process at home as well
