Abstract

This experience report aimed to describe the promotion of autonomy and independence, analyzed through extracurricular activities focused on Brazilian popular culture and dance. Aspects of folklore will be studied, as they encompass a set of traditions and popular manifestations, including legends, myths, proverbs, dances, and customs passed down from generation to generation. In other words, folklore represents the wisdom of a population, which is of utmost importance for their identity. We will briefly present the dance styles that we have chosen and which highlight the relevance of these cultural issues. Carimbó is a round dance of indigenous origin, named after the beat of the handmade drum used in artistic and religious performances. Frevo is a typical dance of the Brazilian street carnival, originating in the northeastern region, known for its fast-paced, engaging, and charismatic nature. Lastly, we selected the Bumba meu Boi dance, brought to Brazil by the Portuguese and integrated into the country's folk culture, emphasizing the animal figure, the main local economy at the time. The theme was approached in an interdisciplinary manner in the classroom, with several rehearsals for the cultural night performance. The target audience for this report was students over 16 years old attending vocational experience classes and social interaction services. The theoretical foundation was based on bibliographic research conducted by authors who have extensively written about the subject.
