The aim of this article is to outline the role of psychology within the context of APAE (Association of Parents and Friends of the Exceptional), in relation to adults and elderly individuals with intellectual disabilities. It is a qualitative and descriptive study based on the professional experience of the authors. To this end, the activities carried out at the APAE of Florianópolis were mapped, including support for families, professionals, and students. The support provided to students was categorized as institutional individual support, intervention in the classroom, and group support. This article addresses knowledge that enables reflection on the role of psychology in this field, its limitations and potential. The interventions of psychology focus on the development of social, cognitive, and emotional skills, as well as promoting autonomy and the integration of students into the job market, in order to improve the quality of life and well-being of students, families, and professionals.
