Abstract

The mental health of family caregiverss of people with disabilities is an aspect that needs attention, as many psychological factors can affect the quality of life of those involved and, therefore, family dynamics. Considering this, the aforementioned study aimed to describe the impact of assistance to people with disabilities on the mental health of family caregivers. For this purpose, a literature review was carried out, with a qualitative approach, which allowed access to studies that, through different methods, for example, field research, case study and cross-sectional study, address the theme, significantly contributing to the achievement of the objective. Based on observations and research, the burden and some resignations of the family caregiver stand out as the main sources of evidence that harms their mental health, with depressive symptoms being the most recurrent. For this reason, it is concluded that such impacts do not only affect family caregivers, but also affect the people assisted, due to the decline in the quality of care.
